The modern house that never was...

This project was one of the most enjoyable projects that I've ever worked on.
The sad part is, it was never built.

It started out with a husband and wife that wanted to renovate their small home, located on a beautiful piece of property. This location was heavily wooded and included a medium-sized creek that traversed the entire piece of property. We started to sketch ideas of the renovation and quickly realized that the existing house would work better as a guest house.

Once we located a site for the new house, we started designing a very clean, modern house. This couple has an extensive book collection so we included a large book shelf with a rolling library ladder for floor to ceiling access. Also, we included a generous window seat with an awesome view of the woods. The master suite was somewhat standard with a garden tub at the back corner of the master bath. We located two windows with great views of the woods in that corner. The office included a custom wall bed that could be extended for guests and the desk is located directly below a bank of windows with a view of the woods.

The style of this house is very modern (my personal fave).
Exterior materials included cement fiber siding, stone veneer, and round wood columns (utility poles).
The roof included generous overhangs but the front porch featured a pergola instead of a covered porch.
This was used to give the feel of a front porch but allow natural light into the kitchen, dining, great room, and reading areas.

This project was so much fun and I hope that it could eventually be built, but until then one can dream.
Right?
